Athella Iconography
Looking at new works of art is always exciting for me but no matter what I always come back to the Icon. I am working on a series of icons that tell a story of the sea.
Jesus took his followers 'Let us go over to the other side" In their boat they took Him with them... And there arose a fierce gale of wind, and the waves were breaking over the boat and the boat was filling up. He was in the stern, asleep on a cushion; and they awoke Him and said to Him, "Teacher do you care that we are perishing?" And being aroused , He rebuked the wind and said to the sea "Hush be still."
I paint icons in the classical traditional style that is true to early Holy Byzantine and Romanesque images of saints. Saints are people who have fought the good fight. Some wore armor, some were peasants, and many were children. Their lives were recorded and documented in theological books. They can teach, lead and show us the way to a full life. The icons have been known for miraculous recorded miracles throughout history. They minister to us through the holy spirit which is given to us by his grace. They can open us up to a heaven on earth with their beauty. Like a window icons will draw you into the world of new hope; a glimpse of the divine order that can take hold in your life and fill you with great joy, wonder and peace; that we believe only a child can experience.
“My mission as a iconographer is to minister to people through divine images seeking the power of the holy spirit and come to find, who they are in Christ. And by this finding peace, strength, love, and joy in their lives.”
